MA is a federal assistance program that helps pay for the health care and nursing home care of people who meet specific income, asset and property guidelines. MA may cover people in one or more of the following categories.

  • Under 21 years old or 65 years or older
  • Disabled
  • Blind
  • Pregnant
  • Parents or caregivers of a child under 19 years old (in certain circumstances)

If you do not meet the income guidelines for MA, you may be eligible with a "spenddown" that works like an insurance deductible.  The amount of your "spenddown" depends on how much income you have.
